4. A greener burn and hand-poured with care
Most candles on the market are made with paraffin or mineral wax because it is easier to machine manufacture at large scale and more cost effective. Not ours, Poète candles are hand-poured with responsibly sourced soy wax. Soy wax is more expensive and harder to pour evenly, but we take the pain and extra effort because it burns cleaner, non-toxic and lasts up to 30% longer, so you can enjoy your favorite candle with peace of mind.

From our co-founder and expert candle maker: I’d love to share some simple tips on how to enjoy your Poète candle to the fullest, while keeping it looking beautiful and burning safely.

• First burn — avoid tunneling.
  On the very first burn, (and after removing any dust cover before lighting!), let your candle melt all the way across the surface—at least one hour. This creates an even “melt pool” and keeps your candle from forming a tunnel down the center.
  
  
• Before each lighting.
  Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each use.
  
  
• While it's burning.
  • Avoid burning your candle for more than four hours at a time.
  • If you notice the flame getting too high, go ahead and extinguish it.
  • Always keep your candle on a heat-safe surface, away from anything flammable, and be sure to keep an eye on it.
  • Keep it out of drafts and away from little hands and paws for a steady, safe burn.
  • Make sure to leave at least 20 cm between candles to avoid overheating.
    
    
• Near the end.
  When about 1 cm of wax remains at the bottom of the candle, it’s time to let go to avoid overheating the vessel.
  
  
• Reuse your candle jar ♡
  At Poète, we believe in giving our candle jars a second life. Once your candle is finished, simply remove the metal bottom of the wick and clean the container with warm water and dish soap or gentle hand soap. Our teacup candles transform beautifully into tea cups, while the larger ceramic jars can be repurposed as holders for cotton pads, plant pots, or pencil cups. The small glass jars make lovely verrine dishes or charming storage for small jewelry pieces.
